The mystical voice of Scarlett

Rock legend David Bowie has described Scarlett’s voice as “mystical and cool”.  The singer provides backing vocals for a couple of tracks in Scarlett’s upcoming album of Tom Waits covers, “Anywhere I Lay My Head”.  On his official website, David said, “She creates a mood that could have been summoned by someone like the novelists Margery Latimer or Jeanette Winterson.”

He also insists that his contribution to the album is nothing like the hype that accompanies it adding, “I’ve seen the press on the album and I suppose the record company wanted to spin my involvement a little more than it actually warrants.  All I really contribute are these oo’s and ah’s on a couple of tracks.”

Tom Waits himself was pleased with the album.  It was said that the singer himself has complimented Scarlett about her voice.  She revealed, “Tom Waits’ melodies are so beautiful and his voice is so distinct.  I sent him some of my early recordings, and he said, ‘Go ahead.’  I’ve heard he’s very pleased.”

Good to see this successful actress barge into the music industry and show the world that she’s not just a pretty face who can act.  She can sing, and let’s just wait for the album to come out to enjoy her “mystical” voice.

This year’s BRIT Awards will feature a stellar list of performers and presenters.  Insiders told Britain’s Sunday Mirror newspaper that “Scarlett has tentatively agreed to sing and is definitely presenting a BRIT.  It would be real treat.”  If the actress decides to sing at the BRITs, she will join the Kaiser Chiefs, Mark Ronson, Mika and Kylie Minogue, Sir Paul McCartney and other performers.

Scarlett is currently recording an album of Tom Waits cover songs with Rhino Records in the U.S.  She has been invited to sing a track from the upcoming album at the BRITs.

Take That is capitalizing on their comeback LP “Beautiful World” and leads the BRITs with four nominations including Best British Group, Best Live Act and Best British Album.  The popular group is pitted against indie rockers Arctic Monkeys in all three categories.  With them at the top are Mika and Leona Lewis who also have four nominations each.  Other nominees include Bat for Lashes, Kate Nash, KT Turnstall and PJ Harvey against Leona for Best British Female Solo Artist and Jamie T, Mark Ronson, Newton Faulkner and Richard Hawley along with Mika for Best British Male Solo Artist.
